How well a fan performs for you depends on a lot of non-fan things. A well insulated house with a hefty overhang on a well treed lot, in relatively dry, medium summer heat, probably doesn't need anything but a fan running most days. as long as the air is moving in such an environment, your fine. Better yet, your energy cost is probably five to ten cents an hour. If your
environment is very dry, running a "swamp cooler, (basically just a fan in a box pushing through a wet towel) will do almost as well as a air conditioner, again for only about ten cents an hour. If your area is moderate to high humidity though, don't expect much of anything from a fan, unless you intend to stand right in front of it, on any but mildly warm days. Circulating the air with a fan, even if you do use air conditioning is still a good idea though. Remember that cold air sinks and heat rises. If you keep a fan moving the air about in an air conditioned room , you can probably set the air conditioner to a lower setting than otherwise without discomfort, and again saving you money. Most northerners probably spend as much (or easily could) on summer air conditioning as they do winter heat in heavy usage months.

Depends on the weather outside. If it's hot and humid, a fan will just bring in that air indoors. Most of the summer I'd rather use a fan in the window, but some days and nights I just gotta use the AC

Depends on what climate one is in and a personal preference. For me, summers would be stifling without Air Conditioning. Some people do prefer fans in windows.

-----It will move outside air into the room. That being good depends on what the outside air is like. A fan will make less noise than an A/C, and use less electricity. ---Jim

If you place it blowing out. It will exhaust the warm interior air and will draw in outside air from other windows. The house will never be cooler than the outside temperature.

NO. It might be adequate and a good solution. If you are in an area where it gets cool at night and where most of the summer does not have high humidity, it can be an inexpensive way to be comfortable in the summer.

Nope the fan does not remove humidity like AC does. When humidity is removed the air feels cooler.

No. Fans only move air, they do not cool it. It will feel cooler if you are in the path of the moving air, and it can move the warm air in your home out, but your home will not get any cooler than the outside air.

depends on where you live, how hot it gets, humidity, etc. I LOVE air conditioning. It wouldn't be good for me to just use a fan.

If you just want the feel of air blowing on you. It will not lower the temp. All you are doing is circulating air in the room.
