I'm running Vista Home Premium, it has most of the features that Ultimate has except some of the things that XP Professional has that relate mostly to business. Depending on what you want, Ultimate is more expensive, but you can do an upgrade from whatever product you choose at a later date. If you want the Aero and Media Center go for Home Premium over Vista Basic. Run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor to ensure you have what it takes to run Vista. With a P4 3.0Ghz processor, 1 gig of memory and a Geforce7600GS video card I'm happy with the over-all performance of the operating system. If you have any version of XP on your computer now, you are eligible to Upgrade instead of buying the Full Version, which will be a lot less expensive.

The best version is something relative.. Vista Ultimate is the best version , meaning it comes with all the "gadgets" installed, IF your computer can handle them... You won't have bit locker technology on a device that doesn't support it for example!
The best version is the one that fits you best... If you don't want a Media Center then Vista Business comes with everything you may want from Vista (it doesn't support Media Center and Bit Locker). If you want Media Center I'd go for Home Premium.
Once again... You must have compatible hardware to make full use of what Vista has to offer!

If you don't absolutely have to have the Vista then I would pass it up for a little while.
I just ordered a new comp. and it was suppose to have XP on it but it came with Vista. Vista is very...oh did I say VERY...different than XP. You will have to learn everything again. I am sure it won't be too hard but it is frustrating when you can't find anything.
Also, nothing is compatible with the Vista. You will have to hunt down updated driver for the things that you want to use ( such as printer/fax and other such things.
