There's another distinct "phase" of activity too - apart from diurnal and nocturnal - which is best exemplified by marsupials (like the Kangaroo, wallaby and echidna), many bats and some insects which inhabit my country, Australia.

A lot of these creatures aren't nocturnal and a lot of Australia's just too damn hot during the day to be active. So they've developed a system or "phase" called "crepuscular" which means that most of their activity occurs at first light (plus maybe a couple of hours); then again for an hour or so at dusk. The word "crepuscular" is from the Latin "creper" which means "obscure"....

Love and Light,

Jarrah
btw...the origins of the word "diurnal" are Old English ("tiwes" meaning "daytime") and it's where we get the word "Tuesday" as well...
