here's my intro: Medical malpractice is acclaimed to be one of the leading causes of death and injury in the U.S. to date. More people die from medical negligence than highway carwrecks. Should doctors get away with causing possible permanent damage to a patient and receive a mere "slap on the wrist" as punishment? Some sources claim doctors like to settle the lawsuit outside of the courtroom so that their names aren't tainted by the media with negative remarks that way they can continue business. Others claim it isn't negligence on the doctor's part but instead the patient's. using this can someone give me a better way of continuing my efforts in writing this paper?

Here are a few suggestions:

First, create a better introduction. Within the one paragraph you mention several facts that support both sides of the argument. Your introduction is your opportunity to introduce us to your topic and what you want us to gain from your paper. If you want to focus on the problems of medical malpractice, you might move in this direction:

Medical malpractice is a serious problem in today's society. Currently it's one of the leading causes death in the United States, killing more people than highway carwrecks. Thousands of people are dying or receiving permanent damage from the negligence of their caretakers and I believe it is an injustice for them to receive a mere "slap on the wrist" as punishment.

I know it's a little simple but I only had a minute to come up with it.

Second, make your arguments in the body of your paper. Remember the following outline:

1. Point
a. Subpoint
b. Subpoint
2. Point
a. Subpoint
b. Subpoint

Third, really focus on the opposing arguments and how best to counteract them. One thing I would urge you to look at is the fact that most claim of Malpractice are made by people who aren't doctors and have neither the education or experience to properly make that claim.

If you need further help, send me an e-mail. If your curious about my background, I've been a military paralegal for 6 years and a professional (award winning) public speaker for 2.

Good Luck!

You should also talk about how government hospitals have law suit caps. You can't sue for more than say $250,000 at a particular governmnent funded hospital in some places. The actual doctors are not allowed to be personally named on the suit and government suits can not exceed that. It's totally ridiculous and it is tough when someone's mistake will cost a victim more than they were compensated for. There was a case where a surgeon made a severe mistake resulting in major brain damage on a small child in my area. The medical treatment this child will need over his lifetime will far exceed $250,000, but that's all his family got. It was on the news here. That's just one example though.
