On-line you can compare - Amazon often has books for one cent from vendors and shipping/handling is $3.49/book - $3.50 and it mught be a new one. If you buy multiple books however from different vendors, the P/H will hurt.
You can also check in bookstores that specialize in used books; Half Price books often has a good selection if you have one in the area.
Ebay can work out well if you are in the market to buy quite a few books and the seller offers combined shipping.
Check out the links below for comparison shopping - just make sure if you purchase on-line you know all you can about the book itself (condition), the seller (and feedback) and return/refund policies.

Second hand books stores, they always have good deals, and you can find books in really good conditions. But if you are looking for spanking new books,at good prices, sign up for amazon, they have good deals, compared to barnes and nobles, and other stores.

WaldenBooks, or the library of course. The library does have a section where you can buy the books.
