I had a spinal done with my c-section and I had to have a blood patch done, cause the was spinal fluid leaking from my spine. It is known as a spinal headache. The headaches were very painful and unbearable. Other then that, it could just be a mi grain, cause I also developed those too. I would check with your doctor, if you didn't already. Good Luck with your new baby and Congratulations

It is not "common" but can occur. Called a "spinal headache", it can follow a spinal injection,a myelogram, a spinal tap or a labor epidural. It occurs when the dura ( the covering sleeve around the spinal cord) which is filled with fluid (cerebral spinal fluid) is punctured and the fluid leaks out faster than the body normally produces it.The dura must be punctured with a spinal injection, myelogram or spinal tap and can accidentally be nicked/punctured with a labor epidural. The headache usually starts 24-48 hours after the procedure and usually resolves after several days as the body "mends" the tiny leak. The headache is relieved by lying flat and worsens when sitting or standing.Usual treatment is: lots of fluids, especially caffeine containing fluids; over the counter pain relievers ( Tylenol, Motrin) ; no lifting/straining and bed rest. If the headache is unbearable, an epidural "blood patch" (injecting some of the patient's blood drawn from arm or hand into the epidural space near the leak) can be performed, usually (80-90 % of the time) with almost immediate relief of the headache. A second blood patch is rarely necessary. A spinal headache is not dangerous but can be very difficult for a new mother with a child to care for.

Headache is common after any spinal invasion as air can get into the spinal cord. Generally, if you can stay lying down as much as possible it will go away, but a week is a long time. The doctor can put a patch on the canal if it is continuing. She should get in touch with her doctor about this.

I had severe headaches after my 1st c-section in 1990. Your doctor can do a spinal patch. Mine was done before I was even discharged. The doctor draws some blood from you and inserts it into the hole in your spine where the needle was first given before you delivered. The blood patches up the hole so no more spinal fluid can leak and the headaches go away. Have her check into this.

Headaches are a possibility, though not everyone gets them. My headache from anesthesia for surgery lasted 2 weeks. No headache at all from the anesthesia when I had a c-section.

I suffered severe headaches after having my daughter by c-section. The doctor explained that it is quite common after having an epidural. I think it also has something to do with your hormones.
