I have a Singer Quantum 9910 sewing machine that I am trying to do a zig zag stitch with, on thick 100% nylon. What do I set the thread tension on?It is set to AUTO for most materials. The manual says to set it for a slightly weaker tension. Is that plus or minus from the AUTO setting.Hope I haven't confused you too much.

It should be minus from your auto setting. When you go below the auto setting it will make the tension less which is what you are needing. Therefore the threads will be looser....

If you have some scrap fabric of the same do practice stitching to get it to the right spot. Then write down your settings so you can go back to them if you need to.

I do appliques a lot with zig zag stitching, I actually marked on the machine the settings so I can start there for my next applique, but would still practice before doing the original.
