I had to reinstall Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop and after the reinstall the desktop now appears very small, centered in the middle of the screen with black all around it. In other words, at lower resolutions like 800 x 600 the desktop is not being enlarged to fill the maximum screen size which is 1600 x 1200. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this?

Go to our website at http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

Then select your computer Model to search for your computer drivers... Then search for your Video Adapter.

When you reinstalled XP, you also deleted the computer video card.

Have a great day. I am 100% sure you problem will be fixed.

Note I am a Dell Technician.

You need to re-install all the drivers for the graphic card on your laptop.
First figure out what graphic card you have:
Start-->Control Panel--->System
Click the Hardware Tab, then select Device Manager. Click the plus sign in Display Adapters, and it will tell you what graphics card you have.
The just go to their website and find the drivers.

Also, try updating Windows.

You may have to reload it ...but try this first.

Go to the updates page on microsoft.com and download the graphics update. I know this sounds weird but on my old computer I had to reload the xp a couple of times (viruses & crashes) and every time I had to load the graphics update in order to see my screen right.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
