There are 3 main reasons we are at war in Iraq, Democracy promotion, Oil, and the idea of the United States needing to re-establish itself as a global leader and decider. Democracy promotion can be a bad thing, due to the fact that it is not right for every country everywhere. Oil is a given, Iraq has HUGE oil reserves, and in fact the middle east and the oil countries is where most of the UNited States trade deficit is coming from. With the control of Iraq, we can gain a little more economic freedom. And as for America having to re-assert itself, with huge countries like China dominating the economic growth of the world, America needs to shwo it is a force to be reckoned with. Hwoever this was a stupid mistake because we don't need global superiority, we need global diplomacy, somthing we didn't use when we went to Iraq without the support of the UN.
As for problems to worry about at home, I would say Medicare and Socail Security is the most immediate problem at hand, but once all the Baby Boomers die it might not be such a bad problem. Long term problems are illegal immigration if its not controlled, which can lead to overpopulation, and incredible poverty and economic instability. Also, there are a ton of environmental issues, like global warming and Natural resource usage, but that can once again be taken care of if done quickly and properly.
Please note that this is an incredibly simplified version, shortened due to size, and the fact that I have work to do.
Hope that helps!

I have no idea why it's HERE. lol But I agree with most of what people said.
But I wish people would remember that although Saddam Hussain was an ***, he DID do good things for his country. Like free University. For men and women of all religions. And he kept the peace somewhat... but he was pretty average when it came to the amount of peace his country had. I mean, you can't exactly say Bush is keeping the peace in his own country if he lets third world conditions ruin the lives of a third of his American citizens.
But yea. Remember the good with the bad, people!
On that note, don't forget that America isn't alone over there. Us Aussies are still with the Americans.
I don't think it was a good one. It threw Iraq into chaos, people's lives will be ruined, businesses gone, homes blown up... I don't know what Bush was thinking when he thought he had the right to change Iraq with bombs and troops. After what happened last time with his father's campaign (Leading the Iraq troops to believe they'd take Saddam Hussain out of power so a huge number of troops surrounded to the US without fighting... then leaving Iraq, and leaving those surrendered troops in Iraq to deal with the consequences.) ... did he really think normal Iraqis wouldn't defend their own homes? :/
At least the Kurds finally have a piece of land that they can almost safely call their own.
But why would he face his own country's problems when he can storm into another country, get a hold on their oil reserves, ignore who he stands on and get richer?
Americans, I wonder if you can claim asylum. o.o Run! Flee! Find a safe home that isn't run by money minded madmen. ...and when you find it, let a few of us know so we can all live in a true democracy.

>What are your feelings on the Iraq war? Good Decision? Why?
I think ousting Saddam Hussein and his cohorts was probably a good choice in itself; they were all evil tyrants and it was only a matter of time before SOMEONE got rid of them. However, at this point the coalition in Iraq has managed to make so many mistakes that, if we assume that mistakes of this magnitude were inevitable, it might have been a better idea not to go in at all. But it's hard to say right now, we'll have to see what the future brings.
>What about Americas problems we dont want to face?

More seriously, the United States does certainly have internal problems. Most primarily, it is still running a flawed form of government and a somewhat flawed economic system. Americans need to start one, choosing leaders based on actual merits rather than on what the general public thinks (people are too easy to brainwash), and two, getting rid of things like copyright and patent laws, income tax, sales tax, etc. Hell, we canadians need to do all that too.

the 1st one occured in usa replaced into the French and Indian conflict. in this conflict American colonists have been caught in a conflict between eu powers over colonies and skill in Europe. the 2d conflict replaced into the well known conflict because of the fact American ships confronted the British everywhere in the Atlantic and help got here from Holland and the French. The Germans additionally fought in usa on the fringe of the British. the 1st conflict as a unified united states of america have been the barbary wars. those wars have been against pirates off the barbary coast of Africa. Theses pirates might sieze American ships and carry the adult adult males and crews as hostages. President Jefferson, after he have been given elected ordered Stepehn Decatur and Marines to take Tripoli and smash the Barbary states. that's how Tripoli ended up in the Marine Corps hymn. From the Halls of Montezumna to the seashores of Tripoli. First declared conflict by way of congress below the form of 1787 conflict of 1812

I just finished watching a piece on the Battle of Britain, about recovering Hawker Hurricane that rammed a German bomber that was close to Buckingham Palace. The pilot of the Hurricane was now 89 years old, and was able to see the remains of his aircraft engine recovered from fourteen feet below the street.
Several things came to mind as I watched the present day footage interspersed with footage of the battle including this aircraft and the bomber spiraling into London.
First, the ferocity of the battle, which surprised the Germans, not something they had encountered in previous battles across Europe. September 15, 1941 was the culmination of the German attempt to establish air superiority, and thus set the stage for the invasion of England. Hitler realized the German air force was not capable of winning the battle, and changed their tactics after that point, thus ceding the British Isles to the Allies.
Second, the sacrifices it took to win both the Battle of Britain, and ultimately the war. Millions of lives were lost, and the very fabric of the world was permanently altered as a result of the war.
As I considered that, and move forward to today’s world, I see similar trends to the rise of the German Nazi regime – we face a brutal foe, who has completely different values from our own, who is capable of unspeakable deeds against not only the Western world, but against their own brethren, who only differ by religious beliefs. This foe has undertaken a highly developed campaign to turn young people from the religion of their parents to a perverted form of Islam that is designed to form monsters capable of suicide bombings, or other acts of terrorism. If we pull out of the Middle East, we are allowing this cancer to grow until we will have to make sacrifices similar to that this nation and the other democracies had to make in World War II, but the weapons that future conflict could be waged with will make the Hiroshima bomb appear like a firecracker – chemical weapons, nuclear weapons, and biological weapons are out there, some from the ashes of the cold war, and some yet to be invented if we allow the Al Qaeda’s of the world to proliferate.
It is unfortunate that we have been unable to really establish a free society in the Middle East, other than Israel – we have not done the Arab ‘man on the street’ any favors in our pursuit of oil, and perhaps we are reaping the seeds sown in the ‘40’s and ‘50’s with support of right-wing thugs to counter left-wing thugs supported by the Soviet Union. It is now time to fight a very difficult battle, one that is going to challenge the US as never before – the battle will be fought in the Middle East, but will also be fought on our own soil before we are done. The cancer that radical Islam represents must be excised from the world. The challenge is to accomplish that without losing our humanity and respect for Islam as a world religion, and one that remains respected among the religions practiced in the US. We can fight this now, or we will fight it later, with much more catastrophic consequences for the world. Freedom is not free, and never will be. There will always be a price paid in blood, until the entire world is free.
