It will smoke. It will run rough. Probably will not run far. You will have to get the tank emptied and the plugs changed. Newer cars you may have to do more. Depends if it is fuel injection. Now days it hard to get Diesel mixed with gas. The nozzles are made different sizes so you can't get the Diesel nozzle in the Gas burner. You have a big problem. It will not run on Diesel.

This depends on how much gas was in the tank. Pure diesel will not work in a gas engine. A 50/50 mix will but smoke and bad running will ensue. If possible, Drain as much as possible and refill to the top with gasoline.

Okay - so I actually dumped a Jerry Can of diesel into my old 1965 CJ V6 and it ran but barely. It had a hard time starting and it smoked something fierce. I would imagine if your vehicle is fuel injected, or if it has any sort of computer controls it would probably not run. As far as the CJ, it was fine after draining the diesel and filling it with standard unleaded.

Short answer>>> no

In fact the tank should be drained and flushed.

You might>>repeat might> get away with only draining the deisel and filling the tank with petrol if the motor hasnt been run.

if deisel is in the fuel lines there may be a problem with the Carby/injectors.

expensive mistake, but it should run. It might ruin or damage internal engine parts and be a very inefficent, or incomplete burn.
