I will be trevelling in October. I would like to stay near Bell Centre or some place that has easy access to Bell Centre via public transportation. I would like to spend about $100 a night (US).

Many of the hotels are located on Sherbrooke Street which is two blocks north of the Centre Bell (as it is called in French). Everything you would need is within walking distance (although in October, bring a warm coat for the cold nights).

Public transit is clean, safe, and very efficient. Also, many of the downtown buildings are connected via underground tunnels that let you wander around without having to head outside.

I have not used any of the hotels in town personally, although our company sometimes has visitors from the US and we suggest hotels in the range of $100-120 Canadian. That should be close to your desired price. Here are a few you might want to investigate:

Hotel du Fort
Hotel Novotel Downtown
Hotel de la Montagne
Maritime Plaza Hotel

All of these should be with a 10-15 minute walk of the Centre Bell, in the heart of downtown, with shopping, and many great restaurants and clubs nearby. You are a short bus or metro (subway) ride to the Old Port of Montreal and Chinatown.
