Narcissism (look it up if you don't know what it means) and lack of self-awareness are necessary personality traits in celebrities. These traits help celebrities to project an "image" constantly, regardless of how truthful that image really is. Narcissism helps them face the spotlight when they're popular, and lack of self-awareneess helps them face it when they're being knocked down.

The downside to these traits is that they are also indicators of delusional behavior. The person who obsesses over his or her own looks when times are good (narcissism) may be seeing reality through rose-colored glasses; the person who pretends not to care what other people think of them when times are tough (lack of self-awareness) may be losing out on opportunities for introspection, and self-improvement.

I'm sure an entire library could be written on celebrity psychology, if someone ever wanted to go to the trouble.

Because they are, they have found that too much time in a mirror, causes this. Actually they spend so much time in a make believe world, they want to be a part of real things even if it is wrong and total crap. They wore out animal rights activism, now it is fashionable for them to try get political, where they really flounder. Much of what they seem to think they know comes from news, which they watch half in the bag, which explains their apparent stupidity.
