I'm trying out to become a band officer and I need help on some things I should say to show that I would be the best person for the job without sounding too braggy.

The questions to be covered in the essay were:
Why do you want to be a student leader?
and
What can you bring to the band?

I was looking more for tips on what I should and shouldn't have in my essay. I wasn't asking what you thought of my qualities because I know you're people, not psychics.

OK as a strong student leader in high school and a recently retired elem teacher, I would say it first of all depends on if the students are choosing or the staff ? If it is the adult staff, then what they really want is a very responsible young person who will do what they say they will and will have enough backbone to not be swayed into "bad things" by his/her peers. It is like in a corporation, they want a middle man they can depend on, in the chain of command,so you need to show that the people under you like and respect you and that you like and respect those above you so you have a good working relationship.

If you feel that you are qualified for the position of band officer then shouldn't you be able to write the essay yourself???
How would we as strangers know what you have to offer?
If you want to be a leader than you need to start acting like one. And honesty should be 1 of the attributes you are bringing to the table.

Look at this definition and see how it applies to your personality:
leadership
noun
The capacity to lead others: command, lead.
An act or instance of guiding: direction, guidance, lead, management.
Are you enthusiastic? energetic? Do you show resect for others in the band? Are you helpful to those who may be struggling? There is no reason you couldn't relate what a great experience this could be for you; something to put on your resume for college and future jobs.
Good luck!

The best ideas are things that are close to your heart. You will do better work and feel better about it. What do you care about? What moves you? What would make you feel valuable if you contributed? If this is a project for the school or a group, get a few ideas and do some opinion polls on what people want to do. You will get more participation and better results if you go with what people are passionate about.
