Yes there is still time to change your mind - your body is still working out the hormones that influence milk production. If you have not yet become engorged you could be okay to exclusively breast feed. I would recommend calling a lactation consultant or contacting the LaLeche league.

It is totally fine to do both - every drop of breast milk that the baby gets is filled with antibodies - and your body may still be making colostrum, which is almost pure antibodies and is the perfect beginning food.

I am bottle feeding and it is true that babies sleep longer when they are formula fed - my baby is 5 weeks old today and has already gone a couple of nights where he has gone 6 hours between feeds. I felt a bit sad that i wasnt breast feeding him as well but there are definately some advantages to formula (although not the health benefits).

I believe it is not too late for you to breastfeed but it may be a bit harder than doing it straight up - good luck and at least if it doesnt work you get to enjoy that bit extra sleep.

you can still breastfeed, although it is going to take a lot of determination on your part. put the baby to your breast and see how it suckles, try to get it to suckle for at least 10 minutes on each side, this will help your milk come in more. the more you breastfeed the more milk you make, so try to give less formula and then wean off formula when you can. breastmilk is best. if you can breastfeed go for it. but you can do it, just remember to take it a little at a time. if the baby only nurses a minute or two it is ok to give some formula. but remember that breastmilk digests quicker, you need to bring the baby to your breast a lot to increase your milk supply so try every 2 hours or so. if the baby seems hungry before then , try the breast then the bottle. depending on which bottle you use your baby might have nipple confusion, try playtex nursers or avent. they work well, but ry to give more breastmilk than formula

I don't believe it is too late, - it took my son and I 10 days to figure it out together... even if your milk supply is an issue, it shouldn't be too late to increase it... La Leche League is a great resource... you can ask questions on-line - http://www.llli.org/resources/assistance.html?m=0,0 - or even get help locally. I couldn't have worked through our early problems/learning curve (my son was born early, and had difficulty latching at the beginning) without the help of our midwife and the public health nurse. That said, I'm so glad I chose to breastfeed. He is 8 months old now, and we've never looked back. Whenever we are out, people always stop me to say what a healthy-looking baby he is. Also, formula is ridiculously expensive, and nursing is so much easier than messing around with formula and getting it to the right temperature. Initially I was a bit self-conscious about nursing in public, but now we could be in the middle of Mardi-Gras and it wouldn't matter. But the two best reasons are that it's such a healthy start for your baby AND when it comes to comforting him, nothing compares to nursing, especially when all else fails to soothe him. When you're at wit's end, it's a miracle.
Ultimately, it's your choice, and there isn't a right or wrong answer... it's what is best for you and your baby. But if you're having second thoughts now, contact your local public health nurse or La Leche League tomorrow... you won't regret it!

Everything I've read says yes, you can still breastfeed. Contact your local La Leche or a lactation consultant. There is an herbal remedy by "mothernature" that helps stimulate milk flow. You can check out their site at www.mothernature.com. My lactation consultant gave me the More Milk Speciality Blend to increase my production.

It shouldn't be too late!

Contact La Leche League, and see if there is a person in your area. Or contact a lactation consultant - depending on your insurance, it might even be covered.

Get a good pump - like a Pump In Style, or rent one from the hospital. I'm willing to bet that pumping will be required until you get your supply up.

(Ohmy, someone said 2-3 weeks to get comfortable? Give yourself six weeks before it feels natural. Especially since you're starting at a 'disadvantage'. At 3 weeks I was still bawling my eyes out regularly over breastfeeding)

It's not too late!
Start putting your baby to the breast. The act of nursing and/or pumping will bring your milk in.
Contact a Lactation Consultant and/or a La Leche League Leader for help. The LLL Leader will help FOR FREE and may even be able to visit you at home.

If you still have milk then yes you can still breastfeed, although now that your baby is on the bottle nipple she/he may have a hard time getting used to your nipple. Pumping may be your best bet here.

Yes, you can. It may take a while for your milk to come in enough to satisfy your baby so, you will need to suppliment with bottles. Also, your baby will have a little bit of a difficulty with the switch because he/she is already used to the bottle. Be patient with him/her and with yourself. It will take 2-3 weeks for it all to get comfortable.
