i have a Peavey International series Raptor 1. i just wanted to ask b4 i go taking **** apart and having to solder and all that for nothing. and i have a Distortion DS1 can i use anything other than a whammy bar and a glass and metal slide for cool effects????

i think some guitars need them changed such as the lower end ones. since that model has a pickguard, you can get a prewired assembly. most requires little to no modification. also invest in copper shielding. apply it inside the body cavity and the back of the pickguard. it makes a $100 dollar sound like one $500-$600. you can do those for at or under $50.

Before you even go there, have your guitar set up properly. Make sure the pickups are at the right height, make sure your intonation is set up properly and make sure you're playing in tune and in time. Everything else can wait. A good player can make a bad guitar sound great. A bad player makes every guitar sound bad. Learn to play in tune and in time before you start ripping your guitar apart. A lot of the time it's not the guitar's fault...it's the guitarist's fault.

Those pickups are pretty good. Most times it is the player not the guitar and amp setup... before you go through all that, experiment more with the guitar and amp settings.
