Well, if you're not from America, I guess you wouldn't realize that there are a lot of illegal Mexican immigrants that come in here, and some people get offended by it. I guess your opinion depends on how you look at it, since they are illegal, but they also do provide some of the best support for our economy.

There is a lot of hostility going on, and it's manifesting itself on Answers, as it is all over America. Some people resent the Mexicans coming here and doing labor for very few dollars. They come here, illegally, and there is a lot of hoopla in the congress about whether or not the Mexican people should be allowed to have work visas or be shipped back to Mexico. It's really quite very complicated, and I think that most American people don't understand the scope of the issue. Thus; the warrented or unwarranted racist rivalry. It truly is a complicated matter, and people want to--as always--simplify it into a matter of racism. I am not one of those people. I can't answer your question, intelligently, in this short venue. I would love to explain it further, but I fear the repercussions here. By the way, I'm an American citizen, and have no affiliation with the Mexican people. However, I've nothing against the people from Mexico.

Well I can see you not understanding since you are British.
I am not anti mexican, but lately they have illegally been stealing across the American/Mexican border. Many are not here legally, and have no passports, identification, or anthing like that. They come here and take nasty farming jobs that pay low wages that americans refuse, and a lot of Americans don't like that. The Mexicans will cut through fences, cross the dangerous Rio Grande, and nearly dehydrate through scorching deserts. I have no problem with them, but there is A LOT of people who do. A lot of people don't like it that other nationalities have to do so much to get in when they get in for free. And(or so I've heard) Mexicans will have children, or marry an American citizen because we aren't allowed to deport American citizens, or people who were born on American land. There is nothing wrong with the mexican people; many have good intentions and send their hard earned money down to their families in Mexico, but unfortunately, the white American peoples' prejudices have switched from blacks to Mexicans. The funny thing is, Whites will be the minority here come 2012, and the Native Americans will deport us all!

I haven't noticed the level of hostility that you describe, but illegal immigration is an incredibly divisive issue in the United Stated. The rift is particularly large in border communities like mine.
By some estimates, there are as many as 30 million Mexicans in the United States illegally. To me, it is a national security issue and an incredible drain on government resources. Undocumented workers generally do not pay taxes and a good percentage of our prison population is made up of illegal immigrants.
The money they do make is typically sent back to families living in Mexico, so that is another drain on our economy. Our government doesn't seem to take the problem seriously and doesn't do much of anything about it.

There is an illegal alien problem but people don't realize it shouldn't be taken out on Mexicans. These people, in my opinion are welcome to become a part of this country like the rest of us have. Everyone here, except Native Americans, have at some time come from a different country.
The only explanation is the Mexicans have take the place of the Blacks in the major predigests of the people here.

Well, some people just have differences, some people don't like the idea of immigrants coming here and taking the American jobs for less money. I come from a mixed background and really don't like prejudice, or understand it, but there is alot of it here in the states, unfortunately. =)

I suppose it's like Liverpool vs Manchester United, Ajax vs Feyenoord, FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid, Boca Juniors vs River Plate, Celtic vs Rangers, Dinamo Zagreb vs Hajduk Split, Internazionale vs Juventus, América vs Guadalajara... they're all on the same playing field. We've just got to fight. It's just human nature.

I haven't a clue. My guess is, the Americans that are close to the Mexican boarder have a bigger problem. Like Texans . Close neighbors usually do. Like Cubans and Puerto ricans, or Jamaicans and Guyanese . Think of the nearest country to your boarder.

Well it is because there are millions of illegal Mexicans in this country.. and they get better health care than we do .. and we pay taxes.. They come here and get on our welfare system.. on our taxes.. on our money.. and we work hard for it. There are a lot of people in the united states who have worked very hard.. struggled.. and have to work until they die, no retirement in any way.. but.. the taxes on our hard earned money pays for welfare for illegal Mexicans here, it is not right. If they are here legally.. and working hard.. and paying taxes.. just like the rest of Americans.. then I have no problem at all.....
