the piano was made by James M. Starr and company it looks quite old

There should be a label in the back of it somewhere (if it's an upright). James. M. Starr started the company back in about 1893 or so, so it wouldn't be any older than that. Best to get a piano tuner or appraiser in to check it out.

Cut it open and count its rings. But if that seems too hard, hire a person to do an appraisal.
