My economics professor asked us this question as a homework grade. And so far I have only come up with one way. I think there should be a bank set aside just to help feed the hungery, that dosen't obligate the poor to pay them back. But then how would they stay open? This would only create another problem. What do you think?

Oh dear. Where do I start.
Bank idea = real bad.

1
All the money in the world will not prevent hunger.

2
Zimbabwe was a country capable of producing enough food for itself and surrounding countries. Then Robert Mugabe, current ruler and thug, decided to start taking people homes and farm land. Now Zimbabwe can't produce enough food for itself, much less surrounding countries.

3
Stop shipping food to Africa. Africa is plenty capable of producing food. They don't because they get airplane loads of food from the West. African farmers cannot compete with free handouts and thus don't farm.

4
End farm subsidies in developed Western countries. This only closes off markets that would allow poor people in poor countries to make a great living farming and selling their abundant supply to others, thus, stimulating the economy.

Here are a few good articles to read:

.
If this economics teacher/professor is worth anything, he/she should know that all these feel-good let's all feed the poor people programs do not work without freedom for the people who need food.

I think it is naive to assume we could end world hunger. Hunger has been around since before Christ. It will forever haunt us. Even if we had the methods, corrupt governments of the world will continue to exploit the poor and ignorant. The poor will never have a political voice in the world and they will continue to suffer. It is a black stain on humanity that we don't know what to do. Even in American, we have our poor. I personally feel that some of these poor folks don't have the motivation to change their situation even if given an opportunity. Perhaps if they knew hunger the way the rest of world does, they might see things differently. How can we help people who won't help themselves. My main issue is the number of children who are going hungry. If they don't get the nutrition they need, they can't develop into someone capable of making a better life for themselves and their families.

There are several problems you need to address:

1) Population. As the birthrate rises, if areas of the world cannot feed themselves, then I believe the United Nations should step in and provide birth control. Can you imagine anything worse than watching your baby die of starvation?

2) Location. In most of these areas with starvation, the people live in a dessert. Hello? You can't grow food in a dessert.

3) You also know that you just make the hunger problem worse by feeding the hungry. They in turn will have more babies and we will have to feed them. That sounds cruel and I don't mean it to sound that way. The best thing to do is to find some way these people can grow their own food.

I don't like your idea of a bank where people go to get money to buy food if they are hungry. They need to be taught how to farm and fish. Money could be set aside to teach them birth control and how to grow their own food. That would truly help the people that are hungry.

I believe what Scott Hughes says. He says that we can most effectively end world hunger by providing student loans that include the costs of food, clothes, and shelter.

"If a hungry child fails to eat today, that hungry child dies tonight. However, if the hungry child eats today, then we still have a hungry child tomorrow. We cannot end hunger without food, but food alone won’t solve the problem... In addition to food, we must utilize education. Education is the silver bullet required to rid the world of the vampire that is hunger." -Scott Hughes

I think that the world is currently expriencing a huge increase in population numbers, which are in turn taking away the advatages that the world now has over the past unindustrialized world. If people can control the population number there should be food for everybody.

The best way to PREVENT world hunger is to stop driving cars and clean up the environment. With climate change, we are facing drought, which means no agriculture. I have read that by 2080 billions of people will starve. So if you want to PREVENT hunger....clean up the earth and be kind to it.
