I was watching Tv when an Amber Alert came up!What is the story behind Amber??

who what or why is it called Amber? Wy can't it be Lost Child alert? Why is it called that is there a story about amber? Does it stand for somthing like A.M.B.E.R? Help

In the United States and Canada, an AMBER Alert is a notification to the general public, by various media outlets, of a confirmed child abduction. AMBER is a backronym for "America's Missing: Broadcasting Emergency Response", and was named for 9-year-old Amber Hagerman who was abducted and murdered in Arlington, Texas in 1996. Exceptions are in Georgia, where it is called Levi's Call

The AMBER Alert System began in 1996 when Dallas-Fort Worth broadcasters teamed with local police to develop an early warning system to help find abducted children. AMBER stands for America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response and was created as a legacy to 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was kidnapped while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas, and then brutally murdered. Other states and communities soon set up their own AMBER plans as the idea was adopted across the nation.

I believe a little girl was kidnapped and/or killed whose name was Amber and after that happened her parents went to the Government to try and get a uniform way of letting people know that a child was missing. It therefore came to be known as the "Amber Alert" system.

I think somewhere in the States it is known as the Adam Alert named after the man who does the America's Most Wanted TV show. His name was Adam and was also kidnapped/killed.

It is a National Alert system put in place when a child is missing. You can also have this same ALERT, to your computer.

This was initiatived after a little girl, I believe 4-5 years old that went missing in Texas while playing in her Grandmother's yard. Very cute, adorable & precious.

They found her little body, sexually assaulted and dead.If I remember correctly they found this monster.
If you are in a Wal-Mart store and a child is missing in that store, all doors shut and Alert is activated, I believe it is "Code Adam" America's Most Wanted John Walsh son, who went missing at a Mall in Flordia, they found his little frail body, but never located his head. A man thought responsible died in prison on another charge. COME ON JUDGES, allow all of these PEDophiles out on probation or early release.

I started keeping record on my computer backed-up by crime reports on Pedophiles back in May of 2006. I was absolutley blown away.
