I am not sure what to house my hamster in, because i have heard problems with most wire-cages and plastic cages. What should I use?

I had this same problem when I purchased my first hamster. The plastic cages I don't recommend because if it gets hot and the hamster is in a tube, it will die of heatstroke and of the fumes of the hot plastic. If you have this cage nowhere near a window, it should be fine. A wire cage, which I ended up getting, was very good, because my hamster got a lot of air circulation and fresh air, but if your hamter is small like a dwarf siberian, it might be able to squeeze between the bars. I had a dwarf siberian, but she was to big to fit through te bars. An aquarium with wire netting on top is the most practical and safest way to go with. There is no way for your hamster to escape and it is easy to view it. If you are having problems, then I would simply get the aquarium and wire mesh.

I like to use an aquarium tank with a screen top. The hamster can't throw food and litter out on your floor. Just make sure the hamster has something to gnaw on. Provide a running wheel for exercise and mental health, a water bottle that hangs on the side of the tank, food, litter, and bedding. Beyond that, it's up to you.
