At first just buy the newborn size and 3 month outfits you don't need to go crazy because you will receive clothes as shower gifts and from both sets of new grandparents. I was organizing my 8 month olds clothes packing away the outfits that she could no longer fit into and setting aside the boy friendly outfits for my little one on the way when I discovered outfits she never even had the chance to wear thats how much clothes she had. Cute outfits are nice but you can never have to many onesies or sleepers and plenty of bibs and blankets for drooling and spit up or leaky diapers at night. Besides a cute onesie makes a great outfit with a pair of baby jeans/pants and socks.

Don't buy too much yet, you'll probably get a lot at your baby shower. You'll need more onesies and sleepers than anything. Check out a web site like Americanbaby.com, and see if they have a "what to buy" type of list.
I just had my baby girl 6 weeks ago and she jut started wearing her Newborn and 0-3 mos stuff. Before that she was in preemie clothes and she wasn't a preemie. So, you never know. Hope this helps, and congrats!!

Depends. the most important thing is to have at least 10 onesi's. then about 5-6 outfits. (went through this 5 months ago with my daughter, she is now 5 months old) socks to keep her feet warm, shoes are optional, since she cannot walk yet anyways. and a couple good warm beanie hats if the weather gets too cold and to keep the sun off of her scalp.

your baby will grow quickly within the first month or 2 so dont get alot of 0-3 months maybe 4 or 5 and get onesies alot of them.
