Ask friends that have used a lawyer. If you have friends that are secretaries, receptionist, clerk, etc., ask them for a referral.
They work directly with the attorneys and should be able to help you.
I don't recommend a matching service, they pay to be listed. If an attorney has to pay to be listed - he isn't anyone you want as your attorney.
You can try to contact the American Bar Association, but, I not sure they will give you the information. With whomever you speak, you must tell them in which "practice area" you need an attorney. Such as Real Estate, Estate Planning, Medical Malpractice, Bankruptcy, Litigation, Trust and Estates, Divorce, etc.

The best way to find an attorney is word of mouth. The lawyers that are on referral or matching services are paying to be on these services. These services include independent and bar association referral services. Some of these services are bogus in that your name is thrown into a pool and the first lawyer that contacts you gets the lead. There are also services in which the leads are handed out in an order. This means as the consumer, you don't really have a choice of which lawyer is going to contact you.
My recommendation is if you can't get a lawyer by word of mouth to search for one using the internet. Most lawyers have websites and provide information on their practice areas and successful cases etc.
Good luck
