Norton has to be the best though it cause some problems if you have Wireless Internet. I fyou know what your doing and do a few searches and read the manuel getting Norton is easy even with the minor problems.
Have a good read of this: http://shop.symantecstore.com/store/symnahho/en_US/DisplayHomePage/pgm.5937500/ThemeID.106300

Free antivirus programs of the Internet are rubbish I suggest you keep away from them as they let most spyware through.

To Be honest I think Ive heard that AVG is the worst Anti-Virus. Cant Remember. Shop around a bit though before you make that final decision.

Avg is free. When you mentioned yours would expire soon, just go to the AVG website and redownload the new free antivirus. It is cheap, and its just as good as Norton/McAfee.. in fact. I think its better, since Norton and Mcafee will always bug you with update alerts. Avg, you can update in your own time.

NEVER BUY NORTON, IT IS FLAWED

F-secure client , if you are going to pay for it, recent independent survey showed it a s 10/10.. Norton even when directed at files cannot see them as problematic, it rated below 75% effective, I know, it my job and Norton is the pits..

It slows your system down, it can cause time outs with networks, untimely response from server because Norton hold everything up.

AVG if you are going for the free version, get super antispyware also from www.superantispyware.com.

Avast! Anti-Virus Personal is 100% FREE and it's a very good program for anti-virus, install, and let go. It does everything itself, never bugs you. Ive worked on computers and built them since 2001 and this is all I use. Never had a virus after using this. Catches viruses and malware that Norton, McAfee, AVG, and even AntiVir doesn't catch.

If you're happy with avg then avg free will be fine. it uses the same definitions as the paid for version. the interface isn't as pretty and there is no free support.
Better still, if you don't need windows try a secure os like Linux.

McAfee is another one - although I'd strongly suggest sticking with the AVG. I've been using them for many years, and they have never caused me any problems. They also have malware protection to keep your computer safe from malicious/tracking cookies that can be incorporated into the antivirus - meaning only one program is running (saves memory and run-time), and only one download for updates (which you can set to download automatically, when you're not using the computer. I usually get mine at 5:00am.) Their prices are also very competitive.

AVG. It's free and excellent. Never given me any problems unlike Norton which was a total nightmare.

AVG is the most reliable. I have been using it and recommending it to everyone, it has never let any of us down. For a personal pc it is free, for commercial users you should buy the licensed version which gives extra functionality. Go to http://www.grisoft.com

PC Cillin Internet Security 2007. The license youpay for lets you install and run the softwareon upto 3 computersin your home, and you can also manage and control the other computers from your computer. i.e. I have anetwork of 3 computers in my house, mine in the lounge being the master and the other 2 being in my son's bedroom's. I can check from my pc wether or not the boys are online, chesk the network and block them if i choose to and configure their security settings and if you password protect your settings they can't change the settings. You have total control of the web sites they visit.
