Well from the weddings I have gone to and actually working for a year and a half in a bridal shop, the most common Mother of the Bride/Groom dresses are a at least a tea length to ankle length and usually accompanied by a jacket that match the dress with anywhere from a 3/4 sleeve to a full sleeve. They are now making more stylish and modern looks for the mothers to wear accompanied with chic boleros, shawls/shrugs, etc. Even styles with a cap sleeve in place of the jackets. Best bet, go to a bridal website and click mother of the bride/groom and look at the dresses. Here are some direct links for you:

Well, I've seen some that have worn a nice tailored dress. Depending on the time of year some had sleeves and some did not it is a personal preference... but I would try to stay clear of the bride and groom colors. Also wear a color that looks best on you and you like...

Have a great time

Go online for pictures. Then have one made or go to a store that specializes in this type of thing. There are many out there. Call a bridal store for suggestions. Since it is formal, you will wear floor length. I suggest something that is not too " busy" -- you don't want to detract from the bride and her attendants. Go for a subdued solid color.

Any bridal shop would be happy to show you their selection of dresses that would be appropriate. If you like and can afford one, go for it, if not, keep the "look" in mind and go to other stores where they will not be too expensive. You will likely be expected to wear something dressy and conservative, so keep that in mind when you are looking.

try going online...but try something simple...like a knee length dress, no sleeve, in like a pastel color, and probably a matching shawl...BUT DON'T WEAR WHITE! it's very offensive to the bride. look classy but contemporary. good luck finding something. ; )
