when you have alot of money, you do want to help, but you want your money to go somewhere that you know is going to spend your donations correctly, there are so mny charities not its not even fun. who's ligit? psh who knows? also if i were rich, i would invest my money and try to save as much as possible so that my children, there children and there childrens children could live the lives i know they deserved, family is most important in matters such as this. also people generally tend to maintain the attitude of "whats one person gonna do???" in which case they feel as though there is too much sh!t in this world for them to be able to help with everything (and they're right) so why even bother in the first place. but you will notice, if the problem pertains to the particular person they will donate tons of cash to the cause (i.e. breast cancer survivors will support breast cancer awareness) becuase they can relate and sympathize

American millionaires are quite generous with their time and money. Part of the problem with the poor in American, is the belief that they are entitled to aide and those that don't help the poor are evil. There are plenty of poor people who don't help themselves. I know young women who are only 21 years of age and have 3 and 4 children: all out of wedlock and all by different fathers. That's a woman who won't help herself! Instead she looks for public aide and she continues to produce more children who will live in poverty. Even Oprah decided to help educate the poor in another country because they had a greater appreciation for what education is about then Americas poor. Our poor often want an easy solution. The solution in hard work and commitment to an education and a way of living which would require them to be responsible for their actions.

Most do help, those that don't are selfish. It happens not only with the rich but the middle class also. Do you know that the USA represents the richest nation in the world. The average household throughout the rest of the world makes apx. $4,000 annually! That is unbelievable. We live in the culture of having everything we want, even as middle class citizens. Yet, we spend, spend, spend, not ever thinking about what we can give! I believe that if you have Christ in your heart you will always look for opportunities to help others. If you don't you look out for yourself.

A lot of them are involved in charities. Oprah and Bill Gates are two who jump to mind. A lot of people (millionaires included) feel that it's more important to put their money toward efforts that will help educate the poor so they and their children can become productive members of society rather than just giving them a handout that they can blow any way they want.

As for the poor themselves, how poor are they really when you compare them to the poor in nations like Africa, India, Asia and even the Middle East? If you look at it globally, millions of people around the world would trade their lot in a heartbeat for the chance to be "poor" in the U.S.! I will and do gladly give to charities that help truly poor people, but I won't give any of my money to someone who has no money because they're too lazy to get a job and/or they blow whatever money they do get on things like lottery tickets, liquor, drugs, Nintendo games and $200 gym shoes.

Hmm,

Bill Gates and Warren Buffet each gave over $1Billion to charity last year. Which millionaires were you talking about?

Statistically the wealthy not only give more to charities when counted in dollars but they also give more as a percentage of their income.

It is exceedingly rare to find a poor person that tithes a full 10% but it's just as rare to find a millionaire that gives less than 10% to nonprofit organizations.
