Giraffes are renowned for being mute but in fact they aren't. They have been known to utter low noises and even ocassional "roaring" (for want of a better word). Fairly recently it was discovered that they communicate all the time in frequencies too low for humans to detect. They even have regional dialects.

Listen very carefully to the sound you make when you place the toilet seat lid down. The sound that results of that action is the sound of a giraffe`s mating call.

Believe it or not, they do make noise. I'm trying to recall from what I saw a while back on the discovery channel, but I'm pretty sure they make high-pitched noises almost like sonar to communicate.
We can't hear it without the proper equipment.
