They're both easy to play, difficult to master. They can each be very simple, or very complicated.. Look at Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers - you can't say it's easier to play, or say it's harder to play. Some of the most popular songs the guitar part is SIMPLE. Some, the bass is simple.

In conclusion, what matters is what attracts you more. Look up some good bassists and guitarists on www.youtube.com .

There is no easier instrument.

Bass guitar will be easier to learn to play well, but it is limited to one note at a time. However, they are very important notes, and a band would be much poorer without a bass player. You can still learn to play solos and have a bigger part in some of your songs. A rhythm guitar requires you to control at least three of the six strings all the time, but most songs don't have that many chords, so getting started would probably be the next easiest choice. Solo guitar would be more like the bass, but to become good at it would be much harder. Combination guitar, where you play a bass line, chords, and a melody line all at the same time on a standard guitar (the late Chet Atkins was a master of this) is of course the hardest to learn.

bass guitar is easier.
there are only 4 or sometimes 5 strings. and you do some cool riffs
with accoustic you work with 6 strings plus you do tons of chords.
