Get a Miniature Australian Shepperd
Country of Origin: The Basque region of the Pyrenees mountains between Spain and France
Group: Herding
Life Span: 14 to 16 years
Color: Swirly blue merle coat, red merle, black and red?all often with copper or white trim
Coat: Coarse, double coat
Grooming: Brush twice weekly
Height: Ideally, males should be 14 to 18 inches tall at the withers; females, 14 to 17 inches.
Weight: Approximately 20 to 40 pounds.

A smaller version of the Australian Shepherd, the Miniature Australian Shepherd was developed during the 1960s by a Californian who acquired several full-size Aussies from the rodeo circuit, where they were popular trick performers. This diminutive Aussie displays all of the characteristics of its larger brethren, including an attentive, energetic personality, high intelligence and eagerness to work. Like all herding breeds, the Mini Aussie benefits from early obedience training and moderate daily exercise to harness its abundant energy. The Miniature Australian Shepherd has a trademark naturally or docked bobtail. It is a well-balanced, medium-sized agile dog. Ideally, males should be 14 to 18 inches tall at the withers; females, 14 through 17 inches. The Mini Aussie's most striking coat pattern is the swirly blue merle coat, but this Little Blue Dog also comes in red merle, black and red--all often with copper or white trim. Its coarse, double coat requires thorough brushing twice weekly. This little herder, although reserved with strangers, adores participating in activities with its family, and makes a gentle playmate for humans and other pets.

I have one, and they are so easy 2 train, feed, and take care of! tThey don't even damage your house either!

Go to your local animal shelter and see about adopting a cat that has already been spayed or neutered. You don't have to let a cat outdoors to go to the bathroom, and you don't have to be home all day long with it in order for it to behave (ever left a dog alone for more than 12 hours? Unless you crate it, you can come home to total chaos if it's pissed you left it.). Cats are affectionate and generally adhere themselves to one person in the household, which would probably be you because it sounds like you live alone. If the cat you adopt has claws, simply get a scratching post. They also make these little plastic things called "Soft Claws" that you can get to slip over them. (Just don't declaw the cat because not all vet's offices anesthetise them for the procedure, and they're awake for the whole thing, which is torturous). Cats are also fairly low maintenance in that all you basically have to do for them is provide food, water, a litter box, and some attention. They are loving and loyal pets.

I have a pet chipmunk. All you need is a LARGE cage. I only have to change the lining once a month because he poos in one corner that can I can just scoop out. And I recently bought him a litter box which took me one day to train him to use. If you give him a running wheel climbing ropes and branches in his cage he shouldn't have to be let out to often. But I always let him run around the house in a plastic ball and occasionaly I let him run around without anything. The plus side is that they are relatively odorless and they are very tidy. Alot cheaper to take care of then my sisters hamster.

If you are worried about your house and furniture, I would suggest something you keep in a cage. There is no "best" pet, but if you reaserch, you can find one that will fit your needs. I recomend a turtle. Easy to take care of, quiet, calm. Or a gerbil. They grow very attached to you and unlike hamsters, they stay awake during the day. They are pretty clean and easy to take care of.

I would DEFINITELY recommend a Pocket Pet [hamster, gerbil, ferret, mouse, fancy rat, etc.] They are low mantaince, you only have to clean their cage about every 7-10 days. They are very inexpensive. The cage costs the most, but you can always get a wire cage for a cheaper price than plastic one.

This is what Prince Pinkie [my hamster] has to say about your question:

Dog. Cat. Fish. Don't ever get a bird or snake or hamster or rabbit or any other animals or creatures that are unjustifiably caged or taken from the wild. This can be argued for cats and dogs but they're domestic and I don't think they mind being in company with humans. Sorry for my ranting :-( but good luck!

I think a Ferret, Guinea Pig, Senior Cat, or Hamster would be good also a fish won't be bad!!!

If you really think about it all of these animals are fun in their own way so get some or all lol!!!
