In the paint means in the foul lane. If you don't know where the foul lane is, it is in between the two lines that surround the basket where the players line up for foul shots, and its boundaries are the baseline( the out of bounds line near the basket), the foul line, and the two lines connecting the foul line to the baseline. In the paint means someone is inside that zone.

Points in the paint refers to baskets shot inside the area of the court from the free throw line to the baseline. A visualization would be the area enclosed by the players during a foul shot.
