I was just offered a job as a receptionist. However, I was also told that I have to take a typing test. I was worried a lil but not alot. I spend alot of time on the computer, so I know how to type fast. My problem is do you think that my method of typing will be under scrutiny. In other words, I don't type the proper way that we are all taught in school. Do you think that my interviewers will care if I type properly or not, or is it really about speed. ( I type 45 wpm, when I am typing my way.)

Speed and accuracy is the key. Ask if they are also going to test on 10-key or any other applications such as word. For typing I always use Mavis Beacon Typing Tutor to practice and cut my nails short. I type all day but my speed will drop as will yours or your accuracy when it’s just day to day typing.

Mavis gives you typing class and then games to increase your speeds and accuracy on hard to reach keys.

You'll sit at a computer and take a 5 minute typing test. Be accurate. Forget about speed in this case. Employers want accuracy more than anything else. Always take your resume. Take your ss card and dr. lic. Dress up 1 level from what the normal dress would be at the office.

As long as you can keep up with the typing workload at 45 wpm I don't see why you could't have the job just because you type differently to anyone else.

It's all about speed - they won't care how you get there.

Signed,
Still looks at the keyboard but types 59 wpm....
