My daughter got a slight fever after her 2 month shots and I ended up giving her tylenol to make her feel better. Would it be okay to give her some medicine about an hour before her shots so that she won't feel as bad afterwards?

You certainly can if you'd like. There's no reason to let her feel really miserable before you give pain reliever/fever reducer. However its a good idea to wait until after the doctor has checked baby's temp prior to shots, if you give the Tylenol before they take her temp it could mask a fever/illness that's developing. Also her weight might have changed enough that she would require a higher dose. So I'd suggest taking the Tylenol with you and giving it before the shots after she's been weighed and temp checked. It should be working by the time the shots are absorbed and the body starts to react to the vaccines. If you still aren't sure, just call your doctor's office and they can advise you.

Giving a baby Tylenol before shots is a very good idea. It gives it time to start working. DO NOT give your baby Motrin before they are 6 months of age or over 20 lbs. It contains aspirin which is very bad for babies. Tylenol only.

i used to do that with my son. i used to wait a 1/2 hour before the visit to the dr.'s for shots, but recently i saw on the news. that a baby actually under the age of 2 shouldnt have any type of medicine unless its prescribed by the dr or lets say for a stuffy nose to give them saline nose drops. i guess there is a chemical in the cold and flu medicinces (even the "infant" ones) that can cause your baby's throat to close up while they sleep and can die. i just found this out about a month or 2 ago off the news, and i havnt heard anything else. i mean like i said nothing happened to my son and he just turned 2, so its up to u what you do.

It is actually recomended by most pediatricians to give a baby a dose of Motrin before their shots and after their shots to hel relieve the pain and discomfort associated with the vaccination. So a dose of motrin an hour before and then about 3 hours after.
Hope this helps

I have always given my child(ren) a dose of tylenol about 1 hr before shots, then when it wears off I give them another, then I just go by how they act after that. so I recommend it!

that's what i did with both of mine. it helps with the pain during the shots, and with the fever afterwards. just make sure you check with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure she's getting the right dose... it changes by weight, not age!
take care!
