Frist of all, I'm not sure if it's possible to have a bruised bone. But anyways, yesterday I went snowboarding and I was trying to do a box and I fell and landed on my arm kinda wrong. Now it hurts, but I don't see any bruises and it doesn't look swollen or anything. It hurts when I move it and when I press on a certan part of the bone in my arm, it reminds me of my shinsplints I used to get from running. I know shinsplints is when your muscle is tearing away from your bone...but what is making the bone in my arm hurt?? Is it a fracture or bruise?? Thanks to all who can answer this question for me!!!

It's difficult to tell, but if you have specific pain over a specific area of bone, especially if it hurts when you move it, you need an xray as stated. You don't always get bruising, swelling with fractures, it depends on where it is. Where on your arm, and if it hurts when you twist your arm (lower bones, raduis, ulnar) you would be susupiscious of a radial head fracture. Good luck

I think that if it was a fracture, it would be bruised, I've had a million fractures -little breaks. If it was a bruised or perhaps a chipped bone, I think it would be a little bruised also. Maybe, you should just ice it and don't put a lot of stress on it? It could be a strained muscle or something with ligaments and tendons..
I know that sometimes, when I've lifted something really heavily or banged it against something, my arm hurts, but it's not swollen or bruised or anything..
X-Rays can be expensive, so maybe you should call the doctor and explain what happened and get their opinions??
I hope you feel better, hun. =]

It is possible to bruise a bone....and it hurts like hell from what I recall from my youth when I was given that very diagnosis (never fully understood it, but hey bones are not really my speciality)! However, that being said, the only way to be sure is get an X-Ray of it. Best to be safe than take a chance of making it worse if its a small fracture or something.
Good Luck...and watch out for the ground it has a nasty habit of hurting sometimes! ;)

Maybe you tore a tendon or ligament. That would cause pain in your arm but wouldn't look bruised. Also, it's not possible to bruise bone. You actually damage the periosteum on the bone, it's a connective tissue covering that protects the bones. Bones have no nerves so you can't feel pain in them. When you break a bone its the periosteum that hurts. You probablly just pulled a muscle, rest for a few days. If you don't feel any better see a doctor.

It could be a fracture or a torn ligament. A fracture of the scaphoid bone doesn't always result in swelling. It would be best to get an x-ray to be sure.
What bone produces pain when pressure is applied? If it is the indent below your thumb and above your wrist please be sure to get an x-ray. That is the magic pain spot for a scaphoid fracture.
I tore ligaments in my wrist several weeks ago. I am still unable to bend my wrist fully or withstand weight. I saw my gp and he said to expect a 4 month recovery time.
It's pretty much impossible for anyone to dx you online. Please be seen. If is a fracture and, if left untreated, it can lead to arthritis.

Hi, About 7 weeks ago I slipped and fell. The nurses at the hospital were telling me that the only way to tell if it is broken is through a x-ray. Also they were saying that with a break their is normallya burning sensation. Also with a break their is lots and lots of bruising. Take it easy and give it lots of time to heal it takes 6-8 weeks. My ankle is still very sore in the morning.
