Red Giants are ENORMOUS, red (duh), and have the coolest temperatures of any stars. White Dwarfs are really hot, pretty small, and EXTREMELY dense. I don't exactly know what the similarities are though...I mean, they're both stars...oh, and they're both near the end of a star's life cycle.

The only similarity between them is that they are both very bright and they distinguish. Nevertheless they are completely different.
Red giant is a star leading to its death. It is very big and cold. That is why it emits in the red section of the spectrum and so appears red. A white dwarf is the reminisce of a dead star which has already passed the condition of a red giant. It's extremely small and extremely hot.

The only difference between red giants and white dwarfs is the space that was displaced from the interior of the red giant during it's transition.
Nothing else!

Bob P,
You sound like your only in 5th grade ! Be nice, don't be rude !
You just learned it within the last year or two, so it's still fresh in your memory. The older you get the more you forget. There is no need to call someone asking a question "stupid."
