Juliet only pretends to be dead, but Romeo thinks she is and kills himself. then Juliet wakes up and see him dead so really does kill herself.

Dramatic irony is basically when we (the audience) know things that the characters don't. There is a lot of dramatic irony in R & J - the main example is at the end when we know Juliet isn't dead, but Romeo thinks she is and kills himself. "Don't do it! She's asleep!"

Um, the fact that their love was forbidden by their families, but they denied their families (AY! They denied fate as "star-crossed lovers"!) and therefore, their trust in the power of love proved fatal and tragic.
