If you upgraded to Windows Vista or reinstalled a new Windows XP that is not genuine, or if you download Internet Explorer 7, then Windows Media Player will try to add a special add-on to Internet Explorer and this requires a Genuine Authentication process. This process will fail if your Windows is not genuine. In such case you can either download Windows Media Player classic (it is available online for free) or start using another program as your universal media player, such as Real Player 10.6 (also available online for free).
