i bought the bike a week ago and the man said its an 84 but we want to make sure that that is the actual year

Because of the "d" after the 9 - js1rd3a9 "d" 2101337
I'd take a guess the year is an "83

The 10th digit on a Cars vin is the year of manufacture you will have to call a motorcycle dealer and ask which digit reflects the year......
