I was told to get a supplement called Melatonin. it is he chemical your body produces to make you sleep. I am not sure if it would be harmful to the baby if you are breast feeding, but i wouldn't think so since our body produces this hormone naturally.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress,
dietary and medical problems. By making
small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly,
insomnia can be cured. I found the information at

Hello, just wanted to let you know of a miracle pill that puts you to sleep, available over the counter, is actually very very beneficial for your health, and is only 3 bucks!! I had trouble falling asleep for years. I would lay in bed, and think and think and think for hours before I could fall asleep. It was literally driving me crazy!! I had tried every over the counter sleeping pill on the market and nothing helped. I turned to Nyquil and that did the trick. I had been drinking Nyquil almost every night to go to sleep until I stumbled upon this miracle sanity saving nutritional supplement named MELATONIN. And you can buy it at any GNC health food store. I advocate GNC because the melatonin they use goes through 85 different quality checks before its bottled. Buy the sublingual melatonin. The kind that dissolves underneath your tongue tastes like cherries and it’s good for you!! I was shocked at the effectiveness in putting me to sleep. If you have any questions before you buy it the sales associate at GNC should be able to answer any questions you have. It comes in 1 mg, I take 2 right before bed. The only side effects are weird dreams for the first two nights if any at all. I have been taking it for years and it’s truly been a blessing. And it has more antioxidant effects than Vitamin C and Vitamin E combined. You must take the sublingual kind from GNC otherwise it might not work because of quality and potency, should be taken at regular bedtimes in the evening. Must try the GNC brand at your local mall.
God Bless
P.S. after you try it and it works don’t forget to tell others about it. You could be saving someone else’s Sanity
ps.s. you should also ask about DHA at GNC, it helps with the brain developement of your fetus. Its in Fish Body oils

I too take the supplement Melatonin, and it's really helped me after a lifetime of insomnia. Check with your doctor, it might be OK to take it even while breastfeeding.

Try 'Valerian' should be able to find it in a good health store. It helps your mind and body relax but without any drowziness and thus you wont feel as crap in the morning. Also try the lavender suggestion, a few drops of pure essential oil should help (no more than 2 or 3 drops tho as too much causes a stimulant effect instead) or 3 drops of lavender in 10ml of milk in your bath water (the milk stops the oil evaporating too quickly).

I used to have this problem (although not pregnant or in your same situation at the time) the only thing that I can think of is you might have a lot of stuff on your mind. If this is the case, doctor's sometimes suggest writing in a journal or diary of some sort any worries or concerns you have on your mind so that you're not flipping through them in your mind. If it's not a lot of stuff going on in your mind maybe use the old trick of drinking warm tea prior to going to bed at night.

I suffer from insomnia too. Here are some things that make a big difference for me. Hope it helps!
1. Work out hard in the morning. Alternate between cardio and strength training every other day.
2. Cut out caffine, suger, over-processed foods and simple carbs. Don't eat meat within five hours of bedtime.
3. Just before you close yourself in your room for the night, drink cinnamon tea. You can buy it at a health store, or just boil cinnamon sticks and some cocoa powder in a cup of water. This tastes realy good with cream or honey. DO NOT SWEETEN IT WITH SUGAR or you will be up all night.
4.Have a simple yoga routing to do just before bed. Do not try to "work out" here. Just do streatches and try to relax. Play Soft instumental music in the background. My favorite is the panpipe and gentle drums. Dim the lights, maybe burn lavendar or cinnomon incense. The goal here is to have a soft, relaxing atmosphere.
5. Learn to meditate before bed. Sit in a chair or cross-legged on the floor. Keep your spine straight. Slowly relax your whole body. Concentrate on your own breathing. Follow your breath until you are compleately relaxed. Then repeat a one syllable word either aloud or in your mind. The classic is "Ommm" but do whatever has meaning for you. Maybe try "love" "joy" "peace" or "calm".
6. Keep a clean room. A messy room adds to the clutter your brain had to deal with. Always make your bed in the morning, and try leaving lavendar, either dried poporii in a pouch, of fresh sprigs on your pillow. Lavendar relaxes the body and calms the mind. Make sure to let pleanty freash air into your room.
7. Hot steamy showers or baths before bed can help you fall asleep fast and stay asleep.
Just try to controll stress and whatever is bothering you, do not let it in your room. Make your room a safe haven. Keep distractions to a minimum and practice "turning yourself off" to the world and whatever stresses you out. At night, it doesn't exist. Whatever it is can wait until morning.
Hope this is helpful to you!

Make sure your room is totally dark. Also there should be no distracting noises going on around you. If there are, try using a box fan to block it out. Then close your eyes and focus on breathing in and out. If you're too hot, remove some covers, and if you're too cold, vice-versa. I you're hungry, get a snack. Also try to get a good workout during the day. Restrain from caffeine and high-suger foods. Keep naps from being longer than 15 minutes, and try to keep yours night's rest between eight to nine hours. Hope this helps!

Try putting a few drops of lavender oil on tissue and lay it near your head when you go to sleep.
If you are not sleeping because you are worried about your baby, I can tell you it gets better. Once they are past the sids stage you can relax as little bit more and get more sleep.
Even if your past that sids stage you will relax once they get older.
All the best

You might just be hypoglycemic or hungry. Eat something carby to help you get back to sleep. I have to eat every night about 4 hours after going to bed, and I eat dinner RIGHT before bed.... contrary to typical health advice - I have to do that or else I can NOT sleep. My body just goes through it quick I guess, because I'm not overweight. If you are BF-ing that is taking extra calories. Also the baby probably needs to be fed at night? That is disruptive to your sleep patterns too but as they get older hopefully they will sleep longer. Good luck
!
