That is correct. The moment you want something, it is given and is only one step away. What keeps it just out of your reach is mostly the lack of allowing.
The lack of allowing is caused by a block and that is either a belief or a fear. For example you would like to have a lot of money but you have been programmed in the past that money is bad for your soul or even is evil. Another could be like you are auditioning for an acting job but you are afraid that you will choke. There are as many negative thoughts or feelings as there are wishes or desires. One needs to consciously iron those out beforehand. The power of your mind is awesome. You never need to figure out how something is going to happen, thats a waste of energy. It never ceases to amaze me how things that I want come to me, especially when I play poker and at the last second I happen to observe a little fear (it feels more like I give up) and suddenly I win in a way that I had not thought of as even being possible (or tie sometimes).

Because then you wouldn't be struggling to reach it, you'd just grab the damn thing. It's like when people say "why is it always in the last place you look?".

its the life circle. if you know what future holds for, then the life would be really dull and boaring as nothing to achieve and not to be thrilled by new adventures. no dreams, then C. Columbus would never had discovered America and we would have never seen world wars , no dreams no life. nothing to reach in life as already seen it.
so don`t be down or feel left behind. things only comes to those who follow their dreams and not sit back but try even harder after one another
have a nice day

It seems to me that it's because you're to tense, hurried and single minded. Usually if you relax, take your time and look around for tools or a little help, you can reach most things. And if not, well, you accept that and hopefully find an even better alternative.

It's what philosophy regards as 'existential alienation'. To give you the answer to the question. (The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, etc.)
If it was the solution to this problem that you are seeking, and who isn't? Then the secret is to consider removing the "thing" part from the quest.

Just life or you may be cursed. The Chinese burn sage to get rid of evil spirits who curse people. But, your neighbors may think it's pot burning, call the cops, search your flat and find the real stuff. So, be warned of the power of Chinese medicine.

Because if you are, struggling, that means you are approaching new and unfamiliar territory so you need to push just a bit harder. It also means that you are growing intellectually.
