Necessary? Well, technically, no.
But physically, it is possible to smoke a cigarette while engaging in activity, but not especially desirable according to all my sources.

Not if your intent is to just lay there and let your partner just get his, then by almeans enjoy the smoke. However if you desire any enjoyment in the activity I certain would say yes put it out.
