Ok, so last weekend I found out that my uncle is gay as am I. So, he and my grandmother were supposed to talk to me about my sexuality but they didn't have a chance (homophobe family members were being nosey). Anyway, he had to go back home before we had a chance to talk,so, he gave me his email adress, but I'm not sure how to start the conversation.
Any Ideas?

Hi there. I would start off with something normal...perhaps writing something along the lines of: "Hi, Uncle ___ . Hope your trip back home was safe, and that you're catching up on some much-needed rest. I'm really sorry you had to leave before we had a chance to talk; I know you and grandma wanted to sit down with me, but I completely understand that it wasn't possible. To be honest, I wasn't really sure how to begin this e-mail, but..." and then sort of start in on what you have to say. Hope this helps, and good luck to you!

If he's your uncle, then why be shy? Haha anyways, I would start off saying 'how was your trip back home'. Then say 'so what advice do you have for me?' Yes I know that is a very direct question but that question but its simple and gets you answers quick. Why stress, if they wanted to have the homo talk with you, then surely they know already - so why are you worried? Haha good luck anyways!

He's your uncle. Don't be shy. Start by saying hi, it was a shame we didn't get a chance to get into a deep conversation, now where were we?

Then let him start talking. He must want to or he wouldn't have given you his email.

Just speak to him like you normally would. Pretend u dont know. let him start the topic up. ANd no matter what he tells you... you will always struggle with this. Your family will always put there 2 cents in like nosey family members love to do. Just smile and nod. As long as you have God in your heart dude you'll be ok. Dont try to have you or your family accept your homosexuality but seek God and in the process you will discover so much more. I fell in love with my best friend.... i learned to turn this into a great friend ship and i will always have a sort of seperate bond with her than any other female.... just put God first.

Just be honest, I am sure he will tell you pro's and cons of coming out. Just be yourself and you'll do fine. Please be honest with him he will know where you are coming from.

just try to be normal. don't let it strain the conversation.

usually casual conversation helps say hard things more easily.
