On Pokemon Ruby, how do you cut down the trees?

Do i need a certain trick or item? Please help me out. I'd appreciate it if you help me out!!!

there is a dude in rustboro, he is called the woodcutter
talk to him and he will give you the HM CUT
use the HM on a pokemon to make it learn the move
after that, you can chop down certain trees with the move and you can chop tall grass
to use cut select the pokemon that knows the move and select cut from the menu

You need to get the Hm techniqe cut. Teach it to a Pokemon and then when you approach a tree use it and the tree will be cut down and you can procced on the way. Dont worry some places in the game are not meant to be acssesed until you get this tchniqe, however once you have it you can start to gain acsess to more areas in the game.

If you're talking about the small trees, then all you need is a pokemon who knows cut. You can get cut from the S.S. Anne from the chef before it leaves.
