Hey. I have dark red hair, pale skin, and a couple freckles. I have tried to tan outside, and at the pool. I always tend to get freckles or just another bad sunburn. Im always embrassed to wear skirts, shorts or dresses, because im just showing how pale I really am. Should I try tanning lotion or just go right to the tanning bed? Please help me!

You don't have to be tan to look hot. In the 1500s or whenever it was, women would not get tan at all if they could help it. The pale look is a classic beauty.

Hi

Yes red heads do tend to have much fairer skin than anyone else. So you will find it very hard to tan. You may catch the sun a bit but it will either freckle or burn. Be very careful and wear potection lotion.

Dont worry thou... Think lyndsey lohan. Shes a natural red head she always wears fake tan and has a great glow!
I think fake bake is the best tan out there. It gives a natural looking colour and doesnt streak its worth the money.
If you feel sefl concious about looking pale wear this! It works best if you apply it and leave it on over night then wash off in the morning.... it lasts for at least a week and then you re apply.

On the other hand... you could just bare all and wear those skirts. Pale skin looks really pretty on some girls... espeically when you are very pale. The Pale look is actually coming back in fashion!

Have fun... and dont burn!!!wear lotion!! :)

X

First of all some woman are very attractive w/ a "pale" complexions (Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Winslet) so you shouldn't feel bad about yourself. But, with that said- I can understand wanting to be tan. I wouldn't encourage a tanning bed as it had not been proven whether it leads to cancer or not.

Also- if you don't tan well in the sun, you won't tan well in a tanning bed. You'll probably just burn. Tanning lotions are OK- But, they'll often leave you loking orange or "streaky"! Call you local tanning salons though & see if they have a spray tanning option. These usually last 3-4 weeks & are not harmful (I even did when I was pregnant!). Good Luck!

Hi there, I'm in the same boat as you (my hair is brown, but otherwise I'm pale and burn etc). Try Neutrogena build-a-tan. It's very gradual so it doesn't look fake, even on pale skin. I usually embrace my pale skin... I certainly don't tan in the sun it's so bad for you and while those tanned girls will be wrinkled by the time they're 30 I'll still be looking young. Tanning isn't for everyone. Sometimes I want a bit of a tan so I'll use the Neutrogena stuff. Alabaster skin is classy, overbaked skin is trashy. Be glad with what you have. And the sun will only make your freckles worse, use sunscreen daily.

I really do sympathise, but with your coloring, you would look ridiculous with a tan. Believe me, I'm the same, and it always looks weird - kind of dirty. I think it's why Lindsay Lohan always looks as if her face needs washing. It's like those guys in the white chicks movie - there's something just not quite right about the features and the colouring put together.

For us redheads, we just have to accept our fate, the same as we have to accept our height. I think it's possible to make a feature of our pure skin - my mother used to call me a 'hothouse flower'. Think Marilyn Monroe, Anna Nicole, Nicole Kidman or Julianne Moore.

And don't forget that there aren't many people who can dye their hair red and get away with it - we're pretty unique.

Hard to swallow when all you want is to be tanned and golden, but honestly, without going into all the skin cancer issues, it really doesn't look believable. And to try it - as I have, living in NZ where we get a lot of sun - the burnt, peeling look is even worse than the pale look.

I have found a little bronzing powder does take the glow off.

Personally, i think you should do a gradual tanning lotion. Jergens is really good, and they have it for different skin tones so u end up tan but not orange. Also, if u do have to go outside, which u should cause its good for u, Vitamin D and all, make sure u wear a strong sunblock but make sure ur blocking the bad rays, not the good ones. Finally, i dont think theres anything wrong with being pale, escpecially cause u r fair.

It actually is obtainable for a redhead to tan, yet in all possibility no longer you. My aunt has darker epidermis than maximum redheads (and so does her mom and sister) and used to tan plenty. She discourages it although because of the fact of each and every of the wrinkles she's already left with. inspite of the undeniable fact that, my mom and that i've got greater of the honest, redhead epidermis with quite some freckles. No, we won't be able to tan. in case you won't be in a position to tan interior the solar, you're no longer rather going to tan in a tanning mattress. you're merely going to burn.

Don't do the tanning bed. The problem is that you don't have much mellinin (I think that's the word-close anyway) in your skin. It's the stuff that reacts to the UV rays in sun to darken your skin in an effort to protect it. When you get sun the UV rays just go right on in but don't produce a reaction until you burn. You need to be careful with the sun, stay away from the UV and TRY to remember that dark red on light skin is considered to be very attractive by a lot of guys.

You can try a tanning bed but if you burn in the sun you'll definitely burn in a tanning bed. They have new beds out now that have less burning rays. They're alot more expensive but worth it. You can also try spray tanning. My old roommate did it ALL THE TIME bc she burned sooo easily. I looked a little orange and only lasts a few days and thats a little pricey as well. I think about 20 bucks a session. If you go to your local tanning salon they'll be able to tall you what bed would be bast for you. I really don't recommend tanning but if you just do it for special occasions I'm sure you'll be fine.

Tanning is not good for anyone, it causes skin cancer. However, redheads tend to have the sensitive skin compare the rest of the population. Possibly due to DNA structure? This is nothing new among redheads, and it has been this way as long as doctors and scientist knew about it. I suggest using lots of good high rated UV protection sun lotion. Good luck.
