They don't. That's the problem. They have no idea how ignorant they sound because they were never educated to begin with. I noticed a few answers saying that language changes. That's true, but why is speaking correctly a bad thing? Take the president, for example. Whenever he speaks I want to stab myself in the ear with any sharp object that is nearby. He portrays the country to the rest of the world. How does it make us look when we have a man that can not form a complete sentence running the country? His poor speaking ability reflects directly on the masses of the U.S. because we are the ones the elected him into office. So speaking correctly should be a mandate among schools. Teach children at a young age to use English correctly so they can grow up to at least sound intelligent.

These are probably the same idiots that mispronounce the word ask and say "I could care less" when they mean couldn't. What a bunch of idiots. Mines tends to be said in ebonics which is a willful display of ignorance in the first place so I am sure they know they appear ignorant, they just don't care.

It's what they call ebonics and it's a derivative from proper english.
White people in Minnesota where I live are known to say "Yep, You betcha!" Tell me why that isn't considered ignorant?

I say mines naturally because the people who raised me spoke that way and I naturally picked it up, so should I be ashamed? NO.

But what I did do is EXPAND my vocabulary so I can speak AND write proper english when it is necessary.

Ohhhh! I can't stand that one, either! People completely freak if I have a quiet, private conversation with a friend or relative in Swedish at the grocer's, but they can say things like 'mines' or 'ax'? AND call it "English"?? Where is my pepper spray?!?!?!?!

So what else do you call more than one mine? One coal mine, two coal hole-in-the-ground things?
