so as of thursday i am 34 weeks pregnant. i was curious, if i could ask my doctor to induce labor in at around week 37. i have been in horrible pain because of this pregnancy, they also say i am measuring big. but that is not the main reason. my grandfather is passing away (give him less than a month, if hes lucky!! has bone and blood cancer....), and was curious if you think my doctor would induce me so i could have my daughter so my grandfather would be able to see my her. he said thats all her truly wants, is to be able to see my daughter before he goes.... (brings a tear to my eye thinking about it!!!) so was curious what you think would be possible, or at all possible, if i ask them to induce me so that we can have his last wish come true (be able to hold and see my daughter). has any ever had personal experience in this? think that they would?? don't want to ask and feel like a moron for asking lol

thanks everyone for your help!!!

It won't hurt to ask and explain the situation......but prepare yourself for him to possible say no. He is only looking out for you and your babies best interest.

I know it is hard but a healthy baby should be your only concern at this point!!

You don't know if you don't ask! Usually they don't like to induce you unless they have to, but all doctors are different. I understand why you want inducing, but believe me, it's better to let nature take it's course! i was induced with my first child and I hated every minute of it. It took 18 hours for contractions to even start, but i was having pain throughout (like period pains but worse) and I was hooked to a fetal heart monitor for most of it so they could keep a check on the baby which meant I couldn't move about. But if your sure it's what you want, it cant hurt to ask your doctor.

There are alot of things your doctor will have to consider but sad but true some doctors will do it. You just have to see if you test positive for the last test they do and thats a test that is for gbs i believe.......also some babies can have breatheing problems like rsv ect so you would have to ask your doctor what they think and just remember the safety of your baby is the most important. if they cant induce see if they can do a sonogram with him present for it or a video of the sonogram. im sorry for your soon to be loss. congrats on the baby. best wishes to you and your family.

Typing through my tears!!! I don't know if they will do that for you. I guess it depends on the health of you and the baby. Your doctor might if you are far enough along, but I think the chances are pretty slim to be honest.
I really do hope your grandfather gets his final wish, and I wish you and your new baby all the best.

This is a horrible request and no doctor would comply. A child would be at a high risk of breathing and neurological issues if born prematurely. I think your grandfather would be happier knowing you were going to have a healthy baby.. instead of dying knowing he was a reason for you having an unhealthy one.

I would never encourage any woman to induce labor. If you're healthy and there's no danger to the baby, I say, wait! I understand about your grandfather, I do! But I know that labor induction drugs have had terrible side effects on both mom and baby. You don't want to take that risk unnecessarily! Your grandfather will probably hang around til she's here! Having something to look forward to will help him enjoy the time he has left.

That can be done if your doctor cabn cooperate with you. the only question is can the nusery at your hospital handle premature baby? if you deliver before 39 weeks there is a chance that the baby's lungs may not be ready in what case she will be in the intensive care nursery. It is not fun to go home and leave your baby behind trust me.

i seriously doubt that they would except in a medicaly emergency, as it is unhealthy and unsafe for your baby for it to come before it is ready, i can understand you wanting your grandfather to see her, but you have to think about what is best for your child and i'm sure he will understand that.
