I recently went to the wedding reception of an old friend that I’d not seen for 5 years. He introduced me to many people, but the only thing he’d ever say about me was that I play video games. Well, that is true; and I did play video games a lot 5 or 6 years ago, but I really don’t play them much at all any more.
I want to start a new hobby, so I’ll have more to tell people that I do. Saying “I play video games” tends to make one sound like some kind of lazy bum with no social life. I know that’s not always the case, but that is the stereotype, and certainly doesn’t describe me very well.
I was thinking something artistic or music related; learning to play the electric guitar perhaps?
Something a little more physical might be fun, too. Perhaps taking up bodybuilding (not exactly my style, but wouldn’t hurt), or swimming.
I’m just looking for some general hobby suggestions that might be fun and not too expensive to do.

dancing, photography, volunteering at the SPCA, running, any local sports league. I think dancing would be a fun one. You meet so many people and you'll have such a great time!!!

Oh gee, this'll take a minute.. I like doing a TON of things, and I just rotate between them all. My main sport is unicycling. *AHEM!* before you call me a clown, read on... I do street, trials, freestyle, and mountain unicycling. Odd huh? Well, I thought so too, before I learned. It's actually cool, you can do as much on a unicycle as you can on a bicycle. Search for it if you want. Snowboarding!! My favorite sport in the winter. I can't get enough, I want to go pro, but I've only been snowboarding for a few years, I attempted a backflip 3-4 months ago.. I think I'm going to let the pass for a while.. My neck hurt for 2 months. Mountain bicycling (a little, but I'm getting into it more in a few days--getting my mountain bike in 2 days!) I also have a BMX bike, I can manual, do a few tricks here 'n' there, but I don't do it much, FlyBar pogosticking (expensive pogostick that can go like 5 feet high. Tho the record is 8 feet high). Juggling and passing with my brother. And in the summer time me and my brother perform at fairs, doing some trials unicycling, some juggling, I do some pogostickin', etc. Hobbies: I love taking apart old electronic stuff and trying to make something out of it. I dont really know what I'm doing, but I do it anyway. Last week I took apart a old walkman cassette player, took the motor out, and took a small gear out that had a hole in the middle, put a small metal rod in the hole, and voila.. A top. The most I've gotten it to spin is about 4 minutes. I can knit, though I don't really ever do anything with it. I can sow, but again, never really do it. I love web design, and creating/editing graphics (images). (photoshop CS3 babeey!) I have a wood burner, it's pretty cool, I do that sometime's. Reading. Collecting old bottles. Collecting rocks (I have around 2,000 various rocks stuffed under my bed---though.. It's been growing.. Literally, it's alive... Ok, seriusly.. It's starting to not fit anymore.) I like videography, and photography, but not seriusly, just for fun. Eh, well. I think that's about it... I know it's a lot... I've never really listed all the things I do, but now that I have... Wow, I need a break..! Favorite sports star.. Khris Holm! one of the best unicyclers out there.

Check out Letterboxing.org, this is a creative hobby but also a "working" hobby.

The gist of it......this is a scavenger hunt, you will find "locations" of the boxes with directions for finding them. You have a rubber stamp that is yours, also a journal that will be yours. The boxes will have a stamp and journal. When you find the box you will make your mark in it. And then use the stamp from the box to stamp your journal. This is a good hobby because you will be outdoors, will always have something "new" to share and can take other people with you on the search. These boxes have locations all over the world or even just your city. If you live close to an area where you can go into other states it will be even more exciting.

My daughter and I live in FL on the east coast. We found them here then she went to TX to visit a friend and had printed out various locations with directions before she went there. She then took her friend she was visiting on the hunt in TX. My daughter then moved to Ft Myers FL which is the west coast. She has now involved friends from her job or school in this hobby.

Well theres all sorts of things you could do, photography although somwhat expensive will give you a chance to get some exercize while getting outdoor shots but for the days you don't feel like going anywhere you can shoot in the house.
You could take up woodworking or metal smithing you can start out with little equiptment and build up as you get intewrested or not.
you could go to a music store and try out what they have in the store to see if you want to try something like that.

You might try tennis or building model cars or volley ball, which I don't know if that would be considered a hobby but you have something to do with your time and plus get exercise.

If you're into video games, why not move up a notch and learn to fly... on a simulator, that is?

Take a look at this (it's strictly non-commercial!):

You might find some other things to interest you there, also.

Have fun!

Try a few different things and see if you take an interest in them. Try swimming, try bodybuilding, try listening to some electric guitar clips and see how you feel about the sound. All you need to do is find something you like.
