That's a good question. I would suspect any one of several reasons:

a) The media likes to see faces. If some one is crying, hurting, or arguing it makes front page and is showed repeatedly in news clips. With motorsports, you usually cannot see the athletes' facial expressions because it is covered with a helmet and/or within the vehicle they are driving.

b) Motorsports is not a diversified set of sports. Therefore, the booming minority populations don't care to watch it. A lot of misinformed people think that motorsports is a caucasian sport, intolerant of other races. They couldn't be farther from the truth. Many minorities are involved in racing, and women are even joining the ranks of the top drivers.

c) Motorsports are viewed as being a lower-class activity, and the media elites (including Hollywood) think that motorsports are "below them". Thankfully, there have been some good motorsports movies in the past few decades, with big movie stars taking a liking to our great sports.

I hope I was of some help; the above-stated ideas are my opinions. I grew up watching motorsports and continue to appreciate them.
