It's just a stereotype that has persisted. When they say that it's just saying that the guy seems to good to be true because he displays all the qualities women want in men and think that straight guys do not possess them, and therefore, they associate their chances by identifying him as gay.

The answer to your question is because men look for ways to lift women proud of themselves even higher up and women look for ways to knock men proud of themselves down.

I don't know, I have a gay friend who has stereotypical gay mannerisms, sounds very fem and looks pretty fem too and he gets hit on by girls all the time.

I've never met a man who was too good-looking for me. I also only date 'pretty' men. That hairy, large man thing just creeps me out too bad.

Makes them feel better about themselves and justifies to them whay they cant get said guy... OR.. maybe he is gay.. (it happens) but either way it leads back to that justification...

because in our experience the ones who are really good looking, well groomed and dress nice usually end up gay.
