I haven't read the book you speak of, but when you write a story, any writer's advice is to "write what you know." So take the quote, ' red at night is my delight' ...is there anything "red" in your life that delights you or someone you know? Red lipstick on a girlfriend & imagining the delight of kissing her lips? What may they taste like? Strawberry? Cherry?

Or taking a red sports car for a cruise or race...

The old sailor saying is "Red at night sailor's delight" for it meant the weather would be good, fare. "Red in the morning, sailor's take warning.." for it meant the weather would be bad.

Use you imagination, & write what you know, imagine, experience(d).

You'll do great!

"Red at night is my delight": You could right about how a character gets downright evil (red is often associated with anger) every night & goes on rampages of sorts (sort of a Jekyll & Hyde story) - if you want to make it fun, maybe the rampages could be against lawn gnomes.

"Woman turned to Stone" - tell the tale of a child who overhears this and believes that the statues really ARE people turned to stone. He/she goes on a journey (with a friend?) to find the person or thing responsible. Because he/she is the only one who really believes, he/she is the only one able to see the clues and find the evil stone sorcerer and stop him (or it).
