Lily is pretty...and common.
Lilac is also pretty...an a little more rare, in fact I do not know anyone named Lilac. I have never even heard it considered for a name. Which in my book would make it the more likely choice. I do not like to pick names that are going to cause my children to have to be called something like Andy S or Justin B. I want a name that when they are in school they will not have to use a last initial!

Like someone else said, Lilac is more rare, and Lily can be used as a nickname is she prefered that, so your winning either way.

For a middle name I'd suggest Lilac Marie or Lilac Jean

I think Lily is pretty but overused at this point. It is very common when I live. Lilac is a good idea because it is different, but it just doesn't flow off the tongue like a name should. How about Iris? Laelia is a beautiful orchid and you can shorten it to Leah.
