I believe it's 6 months but it depends on his weight and feeding habits. Check with his pediatrician first.

I started feeding my little girl rice cereal at about 2 1/2 months...she was ready! However, my 3 month old son is not ready yet...and I really think we have at least a couple months to go. My doc was okay with me feeding my daughter rice cereal at 2 1/2 months, but we quickly switched to oatmeal as the rice cereal was making her constipated!

It's best to wait until 6months. But if you have a larger baby and the milk just isnt filling them possibly the mid of month 4 or month 5. it just causes allergies if a baby gets it too early. If your baby is sitting up, try to give it to them on a spoon and see if they even know what to do. If they spit it out or are just totally clueless with it in their mouths wait.

When your baby is 6 months. But if you feel at 4 months her bottle is just not working out for her anymore. You can give her a little then.

I know the health visitors these days are saying wait til 6 months to give solids but it can depend on the birth weight of your baby. if you have a really hungry baby a few spoonfuls of baby rice won't hurt. My 3rd son was nearly 10lbs and he was on solids at 2 and a half months old!! Depends on each baby as they are all different. Hope this helps.. dont be afraid to try its your baby so go with your maternal instincts. :O)

No solids before 6 months means NO SOLIDS BEFORE SIX MONTHS:
http://askdrsears.com/faq/fit12.asp
The current recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics are for exclusive breastfeeding or formula until six months. We have learned that before 6 months, a baby’s gut is not ready to handle anything else. Starting a baby on jar food too soon puts him at risk for developing many digestive problems later in life. Only under the specific advice from her baby’s physician should a mother start solids before six months Clickhere for our infant feeding guide.
Dr. Jim, Sept 05
http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/solids/delay-solids.html
The following organizations recommend that all babies be exclusively breastfed (no cereal, juice or any other foods) for the first 6 months of life (not the first 4-6 months):
* World Health Organization
* UNICEF
* US Department of Health & Human Services
* American Academy of Pediatrics
* American Academy of Family Physicians
* American Dietetic Association
* Australian National Health and Medical Research Council
* Royal Australian College of General Practitioners
* Health Canada
Most babies will become developmentally and physiologically ready to eat solids by 6-9 months of age. For some babies, delaying solids longer than six months can be a good thing; for example, some doctors may recommend delaying solids for 12 months if there is a family history of allergies.

at the very earliest, 4months, baby's are just not ready for anything other than milk before 4months because there digestive system is still too immature, and ideally wait til 6months, however if baby is keen to start solids at 4months then start with a teaspoon a day and work your way up slowly, some signs that baby is ready for solids (as long as they are 4months+) accepting the spoon in their mouth and swallows, gaining weight well, needing extra feeds, can sit aided (in highchair) can hold their head up well...

6 months, feeding baby solids before then can lead to severe food allergies later in life. Your son is WAY too young for it now.
